Tribute to Keith and Brisbane Take Two

I had Tuesday off, so I went into Brisbane to sight see with Mom and Dad.   Dad had bought a Living Social coupon for a gliding trip in Caboolture, half hour north of Brisbane, so we stopped here first.  (He got his gliding pilots license back in the seventies but hasn't gone gliding since, so was pretty stoked for this).  It was cloudy and rainy when we got there.  The pilot said to come back in an hour for the skies to clear, so we drove out to nearby Bribie Island for coffee and snacks.  When we came back the cloud ceiling had lifted and the glider was ready to go!  It wasn't as amazing of a view as it would be on a clear day, but Dad still thought it was pretty cool.  He even got to fly it himself for a bit.

Caboolture is a pretty small, unexciting place, but for any country fan out there it is the hometown of Keith Urban!

By the time we hit Brisbane it was already afternoon.  First stop was to find the Brisbane Walk of Fame, which is the Aussie version of the Hollywood one.  My guidebook listed this as a must see attraction, however we spent about an hour unsuccessfully trying to find it!  Must write to Lonely Planet about this.

We headed to South Bank, where tons of shops and restaurants are.  Joel and I didn't get to see this our last time round.  It wasn't that busy, as it was a weekday afternoon and wet.  There is a big Ferris wheel there, as well as a man made lagoon.  (Brisbane sits on a river, not the ocean so this is quite popular in the summer).

We had lunch, then walked across one of Brisbane's many bridges into the CBD.  There were way more people walking around, so I found it to be more of an interesting place this time.  I knew my way around and had no problem finding landmarks.  There are some really cool old buildings here, as well as a mix of modern high rises.  Now I feel like I've "been there, done that" in Brisbane.  For anyone interested in touring here, one day or one weekend is enough time to spend exploring in my opinion.

We walked back to South Bank and enjoyed the footpath along the river.  It was cool to see how the city lights up at night.  When we got back to the Gold Coast we headed downstairs to good old Kesh for dinner with Michelle and her family.
