Adelaide to Warrnambool

From Adelaide the next adventure was to drive to Melbourne via the Great Ocean Road.  This is a famous stretch of highway that offers amazing views of the coast.  It's an eleven hour drive from Adelaide to Melbourne, so we broke up our drive into two days.  Day one was not very exciting.  It rained hard for the first part of the drive and there was not much to see.  It was a long day of driving and sitting in the car.  We made a few stops during the drive, mainly to stretch or find a bathroom.  Here are a few "highlights"of our long drive down the Limestone Coast.

Seeing Larry the giant lobster in Kingston SE.  (The person who built this measured it in meters instead of feet, so it turned out much larger then anticipated).  We stopped here for some lunch.  The lobster is probably the only reason people stop here.

The pretty coastal town of Robe.  Nice beaches.

A perfect shot of Joel's mood today- grumpy and bored.

The Blue Lake in Mount Gambier from the scenic lookout.  In the summer it's a beautiful dark blue.  The rest of the year not so much.

After that we crossed the border into the state of Victoria.  We learned that speeding fines are even WORSE here then the rest of Oz- one over and you get a ticket!  Yikes.  I did find that drivers here (as well as in SA) are slightly more courteous to pedestrians, ie they actually stop and slow down for pedestrians.  We stopped in Warrnambool for the night, which was farther then we had originally intended on driving.  (The Great Ocean Road starts just a few km after, so we thought we'd spend more time on that part then more little towns).  Warrnambool is a neat little town (or city?  it was the largest stop of the day) and we had some nice Italian food for dinner.  The hotel we stayed at had some problems with the heater so we all froze over night.  It was so windy and wet here that it felt alot colder then it actually was.
