The Barossa Valley

This morning we drove out to the Barossa Valley for some wine tasting!  I was so happy to do this.  I've just started getting into wine in the last year, but after today I'm a pro!

First stop on our journey was to the World's Largest Rocking Horse in Gumeracha.  (This is for you Dewey!).  Then off to the Whispering Wall, which is a large dam where a voice can be heard clearly from one side to the other — over 140 metres, end to end.  (Like the Whispering Wall in Grand Central NYC)

The Barossa Valley is huge!  It is home to over eighty vineyards and this is where most of Australia's wine is made.  Even though it was winter, it is still so beautiful to see all the rows of vines.  I highly recommend making a trip out here if you're planning to visit Australia!

First stop was Jacob's Creek, one of my favorite Aussie wines.  All the tastings are FREE.  There were over thirty to try and Joel tried all of them!  My favorite is still the moscato.  We stayed here for a nice lunch and some bread to soak up all that wine.

Next was onto Peter Lehmann Winery.  Didn't try as much here (my stomache can only take so much!) but we did buy a couple bottles to take home.

In the evening we met up with Joel's cousin Laurel and her boyfriend Andy for supper, who live in Adelaide.  Laurel is in the process of immigrating to Australia (Andy grew up here).  It was so good to catch up and visit with them!
